We have spent quite a bit of time over 2022 thinking about our new situation - moving from being a bunch of friends sitting in a pub to being the local Uniting Church congregation in Northcote is a big change. As part of this, we spent some time working on getting to grips with what we are really about at a deep level. Is there more to our life together than eating dinner in a pub? We used an Ignatian approach, facilitated by Fr Michael Smith SJ, a very experienced spiritual director, among other things, and this what we have come up with so far.
TRANSCENDENT (OR HOLINESS) GOAL — “Who we are”
We seek our own and one another’s flourishing through authentic relationship with our loving God and with each other. We are cultivating a deeper understanding of who and whose we are — how to be Christian in this time and in this place.
APOSTOLIC GOAL — “What we do”
With God, we will co-create a life-giving community in which the love of God is palpable. We seek to hold space for all people as we discern God’s call and participate in God’s project of liberation and love for the world.
