Two By Two

Then he went about among the villages teaching. He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them, ‘Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place.

Community of the Spirit

There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28

What does it mean to be a "community of the Spirit"? What would it be like to be in a community in which the artificial divisions which kept us apart were broken apart by unity in Christ?

Tuesday 22/6/21 at 7pm at Chalice - Northcote Uniting Church 251 High Street Northcote

Join us from 7pm for dinner and good conversation.

Body of Christ

For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
Romans 12:4-5

What does it mean to be the body of Christ? It seems kind of obscure doesn't it? What does it mean for us here, today, in COVID-wracked, somewhat locked-down, Melbourne?

We're hoping to gather in actual person this time. Masks on, COVID safe protocols at work.

Still Easter

On Tuesday 13/4, Anne will be facilitating a reflective session around Easter themes. Bring your dinner at 7pm, serious bit at 8pm.

The Baptism of Jesus

This week (23/2/21 7pm) at Caravan, we remember the baptism of Jesus, and reflect on God's act of solidarity for all creation

Caravan is our contemplative communion service. Less talk, more silence, more singing, and more reflective practices. We still eat together though..

So is it anything goes then?

As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.

Caravan March 2019

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. Luke 4:1-2a

In the image notice that there is no external tempter. It's harder to resist your own voice suggesting that there is no absolute necessity to completely refrain from eating. After all, you are going to need your strength. And you could fix it all so very easily - all the pain and suffering in the world. Everything could be fixed just like that.

14/8 - The Mission of Cafechurch

Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’ When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit." John 20:21-22

What does it mean for Cafechurch to be sent by Jesus? It's a time of change for us and so the clearer we are about what we are on about, the better.

Yes, I know it's a big question. But perhaps after a parma the side of your head and a few beers the answers will begin to fl

Caravan - 27 Feb

What does it mean to take up our crosses? It's a hard ask. Join us to engage with it at a spiritual level through song, contemplation, and pizza.

Caravan is our contemplative, more  church-y feeling thing. Communion, a Biblical prayer exercise, and then dinner afterwards.

7pm on the 27th of February at the Centre for Theology and Ministry chapel - 29 College Crescent (between St Hildas and Ormond College - it can be a little tricky to find, so best if you're a little early.)

God is calling you: are you paying attention?

A couple of weeks ago we had a session on the whole "call of God" idea. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there was a lot more to be said than we had time for. So this week, we're having another bash.  If God were calling you, would you notice? Or, more exactly, God is calling you: are you paying attention? How do you go about discerning what God is calling you to? And what if God is calling you to something unpleasant? All this and more will be explored this week - 6/2/2017.
