God: Necessity

Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.’ John 8:58

Last week we talked about whether God is an object in the universe (answer: no, not in the sense we usually mean that.) This week we reflect on one of they key ideas in the reflective traditions of theistic religion is that God exists "necessarily." What does that mean? Is it any more than just an interesting logic puzzle? And does it have any existential meaning, any value I can 'take to the bank" as it were?
